Our Community Resource Center for Youth is essential for providing young people with a safe and supportive environment where they can access educational, career, and personal development opportunities. Many youths face barriers such as lack of mentorship, limited access to technology, and insufficient career guidance, which can hinder their growth. Our well-equipped resource center offers tutoring, vocational training, mental health support, and recreational activities, helping to keep youth engaged and away from negative influences. By fostering skill development, leadership, and community involvement. The center empowers young individuals to reach their full potential and contribute positively to society.

Computer Lab

THYPI Community Computer Lab plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide by providing access to technology and educational resources for youth who may not have computers or internet access at home. It serves as a hub for learning, skill development, and job opportunities, empowering students, and job seekers to enhance their digital literacy. By offering free access to computers, software, and training, the lab fosters inclusion and economic growth, ensuring that everyone youth—regardless of their background—has the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

Counseling

We believe in helping the whole person. Youth face many challenges that may cause emotional scares, dysfunctional world views and behaviors. We encourage our youth to talk it out. This gives youth the opportunity to express how they feel and learn new ways of dealing with issues. We use local clergy and licensed counselors to provide counseling that is confidential and in a safe environment.

Empowering Girls to Discover Their Strength, Purpose, and Potential

The S.H.I.N.E. Mentoring Program, offered by Things Happening Youth Program Inc. (THYPI), is designed to empower middle and high school girls with the confidence, knowledge, leadership skills, and support they need to thrive in school, in their communities, and in life.

S.H.I.N.E. provides a safe and encouraging environment where young women can build meaningful relationships with mentors and peers while discovering their individual strengths, developing their voices, and preparing for their futures.

What We Focus On

Through engaging mentoring activities, workshops, discussions, and hands-on experiences, participants will develop skills in:

• Leadership & Public Speaking — Building confidence, improving communication, and learning to lead with purpose.

• Self-Esteem & Identity — Recognizing personal worth, embracing individuality, and cultivating a positive self-image.

• Academic Success — Fostering effective study habits, goal setting, accountability, and overall educational achievement.

• Life Skills — Gaining practical tools for decision-making and for navigating personal and social challenges.

• Community Service — Understanding the value of serving others and contributing positively to the community.

• College & Career Exploration — Exploring educational opportunities, career paths, professional roles, and strategies for future planning.

We believe mentorship can change the direction of a young person’s life. Through consistent encouragement, positive role models, meaningful experiences, and opportunities for growth, S.H.I.N.E. shows girls that their circumstances do not define their future.

S.H.I.N.E. is for middle and high school girls who are ready to grow, learn, lead, and become the best version of themselves.

Literacy Launchpad After-School Reading Program

Literacy Launchpad is THYPI’s after-school reading program designed to help elementary students strengthen their reading skills, improve comprehension, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Serving students in 1st through 5th grade, Literacy Launchpad provides a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where students receive guided instruction and individualized support based on their reading needs.

What Students Will Experience

• Guided reading and age-appropriate literacy activities

• Reading comprehension and critical-thinking development

• Reading fluency and vocabulary building

• Individualized academic support

• Confidence and skill development

• Positive mentorship and encouragement

• Fun activities that encourage a love of reading

2025 — EXPANDING THE REACH

Literacy Launchpad Begins Growing

T.H.Y.P.I. initially focused on middle and high school students and continued evolving based on community needs.

This eventually developed into the Literacy Launchpad program now serving 1st–5th grade students.

Warm Your Hearts and Hands (Winter Program)

T.H.Y.P.I. distributed 350 winter sets, each including a hat, scarf, and pair of gloves. One hundred sets were given out at Hawthorne Elementary, and the remaining 250 were distributed throughout the surrounding communities.

Summer Youth Programming

T.H.Y.P.I. provided summer programming designed to keep young people engaged, learning, and connected during the summer months.

The organization also conducted fundraising and community outreach to make summer opportunities available to youth.

We provided 50 pairs of new Jordan tennis shoes to summer camp participants and local youth.

Academic & Youth Development

T.H.Y.P.I. continued providing:

• Future-planning activities

• Entrepreneurship exposure

• Leadership development

• Mentoring

• Career and college exposure

The organization has also worked with schools and community partners to address resource gaps affecting students.

Back -to- School Support

T.H.Y.P.I. continued its commitment to supporting our communities through our Back-to-School Support Initiative. We helped to reduce the financial pressure associated with back-to-school expenses. We distributed 225 bags filled with essential school supplies to children and families in our communities.

T.H.Y.P.I. continues to strengthen relationships with schools, churches, businesses, community organizations and supporters. New Life Restoration Church/ City Serve Oklahoma / Reed Community Foundation / and more.
